This program contributes to food safety by ensuring input to agriculture are safe and products are not misrepresented to customers. Licenses and registrations are maintained for individuals selling livestock remedies, feed stuffs and pet foods.

Division of Food Safety and Lodging

The Kansas Department of Agriculture guarantees public safety by regulating the production and sale of food products in Kansas. The Division of Food Safety and Lodging is responsible for food safety involving eggs and for inspections at grocery stores, restaurants in grocery stores, convenience stores, restaurants, schools, senior meal sites, mobile food units, lodging facilities, food wholesalers and warehouses, food processors and food manufacturers.

Meat and Poultry Wholesalers Permit

Farmers wholesaling or direct marketing meat or poultry products must register with KDA and submit documentation of what slaughter/processing facility is being used.

A current listing of inspected slaughter and processing plants is available by completing and submitting a KDA Open Records Request.


Plant Health

A Live Plant Dealers License is required for each location from which individuals grow or sell live plants or give live plants as a premium for promotional or advertising purposes. Live plants include any living plant, cultivated or wild, or any part thereof which can be propagated except cut flowers and greenery not used for propagation; seeds or sets of any kind; aquatic plants for use in indoor aquariums; fruits and vegetables for food or feed; and all field and forage crops.

Weights and Measures

Weights and measures inspectors test all kinds of commercial weighing and measuring devices. All commercial weighing and measuring devices — including scales used to sell produce or other products — must be tested annually.
